Welcome to my complete and impartial Panic Away review, it is my hope that by reading this review you will learn the full and honest truth about the Panic Away program and whether or not it is suitable for you to use.
There are a number of mixed reviews about the system on the Internet and having used the program for a while now I felt it was appropriate to prepare a complete and unbiased report on exactly how the system works, what its strengths are and where it’s weaknesses are.
As you may know from having read my other articles on this site both my partner and I have suffered from anxiety and panic disorder for a number of years now.
We have tried and tested a great number of methods and techniques to alleviate the symptoms of our attacks.
Given the number of products we have tried and the fact that we have been using panic away for the past 14 months I feel, and I hope you agree, that I have enough experience of these types of products to give you a realistic and genuine review of the panic away product.
To start with we will explore exactly what the program contains, following that I will give you my opinion on whether the system works, how it works and for whom the panic away system is most appropriate.

The product itself is a boxed set containing the Panic Away manual, three audio and one multimedia CD-ROM for use with your PC or Mac. Included in the pack is a $150 voucher for one-on-one support from the product creator.
With this you can email Mr McDonagh using your voucher number and he will reply with advice specific to your condition or current situation. We felt that this was perhaps one of the most useful aspects of the system and it is one that we have used time and time again to great effect.
Included on the CDs and in the manual is the one move technique. The idea of the one move technique is that it is easily and quickly put into practice by anyone who feels a panic or anxiety attack about to start immediately.
Using the CD and listening to Barry McDonagh explain the one move technique I have found I am able to deal with impending anxiety attacks far more effectively than I have ever been in the past.
I feel it is a combination of three things firstly the technique itself is very effective, secondly Barry McDonagh’s voice is very very calming and thirdly the soothing music that plays in the background whilst the technique is explained. These three things combine to produce a very effective means of controlling and minimising panic attacks.
If like me you experience any form of anxiety while you are driving then a very useful tool included on the audio CD is the one-minute is the one move technique for driving. This presentation, which lasts just under 30 minutes is intended to help drivers who experience severe anxiety to overcome the problem. In this version of the technique Barry McDonagh once again explains the techniques and methods in his very calming and pleasant voice whilst soothing music plays in the background. The Original Panic Away Anxiety Test
Obviously if you are like I was where driving was a hellish experience which I dreaded and try to avoid at every opportunity, then this technique alone is going to be worth the cost of the program. I have to be honest and say that there are still the odd occasions where I feel nervous in certain situations on the road.
However, it truly is only nervousness and we are talking about situations where in the past I would have had a complete meltdown.
I used to be one of those people who took the bus rather than using the car sitting outside my house but since purchasing panic away and using this technique I have actually driven from my home here in the UK through France and down into southern Spain.
A journey which a few years ago would have been inconceivable either to myself or my husband.
One of the most attractive aspects of the entire program is the multimedia element. These presentations play on your PC or Mac and explain the entire system.
Both my partner and I enjoyed watching these presentations as they made a welcome change from reading the book and explained the points of the various methods contained within the program in a different and often times more accessible way.
There are also kept quite short and focus mostly on single points within the system, allowing you to absorb information about the methods, go away and put it into practice then returned later and continue with the course.
This more than anything was one of the most useful elements of the program.
Throughout our time using other programs and treatment techniques we have found that we have had to sit and wait through turgid and filler packed books where the author tends to waffle on and leave us feeling tired and confused.
The problem with these thick manuals is that there is no chunking of the information into small bite sized pieces that you can quickly learn, implement and move on from. Barry McDonagh’s method is the opposite of these huge books.
Within minutes you are able to begin putting into practice the techniques of the system and within your first day of using these methods you should start to feel a difference in the level of your general anxiety.
The main focus of the panic away system is on dealing with the root causes of your problem through modifying your behavior in those situations where you would begin to feel anxiety and stress. The system trains you to change your response to the trigger events specific to your particular panic disorder.
There is also a community forum which is really great for that additional support you need when things aren’t going as well as you would hope. The forum itself is populated exclusively with panic away users and everything is completely anonymous.
As well as users of the system there are support staff online all the time and according to the literature there are qualified therapists who frequent the forum to give advice and help. However I have not yet met one of them in any of the forums I have frequented.
It wouldn’t be right of me to say that the panic away system will reduce your panic attacks entirely.
It may be the case and your anxiety disorder disappears completely following your use of the course or it may be the case that he will only see a relative reduction in your symptoms. However what I can say is that both my partner and myself found that using the course to address the root causes of panic disorder we are able once again to lead a normal anxiety free (the majority of the time) life.
Whilst studying at the University College of Dublin Barry John McDonagh began to experience severe panic attacks.
Like most of us, who went through method after method medication after medication in an effort to cure his anxiety disorder.
Despite being neither a Psychologist nor a Psychiatrist he began to develop his own thoughts about how to treat panic and anxiety disorders.
He realized that all conventional means of addressing these types of disorders were aimed exclusively at treating the symptoms rather than addressing the cause.
He reasoned that if you can put into practice techniques which allow you to control your feelings with regard to the events that trigger your attacks than the need for medication and the various talking therapies goes away.
Over a period of time he refined his thoughts in this area and in 2001 panic away was made available to the public.
Since then, it has been one of the highest selling panic treatment methods available. It is available either through Amazon or through Barry’s own site panic away.com.
The 21/7 technique is actually comprised of two separate techniques. When used in conjunction these techniques are as Barry McDonagh says a form a first aid for panic disorder.
The main focus of the 21/7 technique is on embracing and observing those feelings which anxiety attacks engender.
The idea is not to fight against the oncoming attack but rather to accept sensations and emotions and to allow them to flow through us and leave us rather than as is normally the case us fighting them and in so doing being harmed psychologically.
The major tenet of this technique is trust, we must trust and realise that an exciting attack is not in and of itself dangerous.
In essence it states that any episode cannot cause you physical harm and so is purely psychological condition which, with training, can be defeated.
One seemingly strange and counter intuitive element of this technique is that you are advised to encourage a panic attacks to begin in order to practice the techniques. However I’m sure you will find as I did that it is not that simple.
However, when a genuine anxiety attack begins it is very difficult at the beginning to let go and allow the feelings and emotions to wash over you.
That said, having done it once it does get easier and having done it once you do begin to see the benefits of the technique.
The system has such seemingly simple yet effective techniques that you will wonder why you never thought of or used them before.
I can honestly say that neither myself nor my partner have used any other product since buying this system and in all probability never will.
